No Work items in list view in Jira

I clicked the link in the Jira notification email and I'm going through the quick start.

On the home page, everything said 0, but I assumed that was because nothing specifically had been assigned to me.

However, the list view is also blank. Why don't I see all the work items from the scope I activated?
